What does Sibos stand for?
Sibos stands for SWIFT International Banking Operations Seminar. As it’s name implies, it was originally intended as a gathering of users to talk about operational SWIFT matters. The first Sibos event was held in Brussels in 1978 and was attended by 300 delegates. While the operational component is still an important part of Sibos, It has since grown to include the entire financial industry, encompassing securities, trade and treasury and now attracts upwards of 8,000 delegates. It offers a rich and diverse program that encourages discussion and debate on issues faced by financial institutions. Sibos has only been cancelled once—in 2001 following the events of September 11.
We look forward to seeing you at Sibos in Toronto.
