RBC Dexia Investor Services’ Viewfinder® web channel is designed to integrate into technical environments used in the financial services industry. The technical requirements summary table below indicates both minimum and recommended technical environments required for satisfactory performance.

The enclosed support notes provide information for the successful use of Viewfinder with IE 6.0.

Internet Explorer 6.0 is the minimum browser required to operate Viewfinder.

Browser settings

Under Tools > Internet Options > General > Temporary Internet Files > Settings button, the following browser settings are recommended:
  • Check for newer versions of stored pages – Automatically
  • Amount of disk space to use – 200 MB
The following browser settings are also required:
  • Cookies enabled (Session cookies only)
  • SSL2 and SSL3 enabled (for backward compatibility of encryption standards)
  • Java JIT Compiler enabled (for Java performance)
  • Accept pop-up boxes from www.rbcdexia-is.com
  • Automatic prompting for Active-X controls enabled
  • Add https://www.rbcdexia-is.com as a trusted site
The enclosed support notes provide additional details for the successful use of Viewfinder with IE 6.0.

Communications security
Once logged into Viewfinder, all interaction will be encrypted using 128-bit SSL encryption. For more information on security please visit the RBC Dexia Investor Services security site.

Internet connection
Viewfinder functions with most Internet connections including modem dial-up, Cable-Modem, ISDN and leased-line connections. Viewfinder will operate over a 56 Kbs per user connection; however, a faster data rate is recommended.

Firewalls
Viewfinder operates with all firewall settings that allow HTTP(s) traffic via Port 443 to our site.

Application viewer
Viewfinder incorporates a Dynamic HTML viewer with the following print options:
  • Active X
  • Adobe Acrobat (For Non Active X installations)
These are personalised settings controlled from within Viewfinder by each user.

Changing your screen resolution settings

To reduce the need to scroll across the page when using the Reports function in Viewfinder, set your Windows screen resolution to 1024 X 768 pixels.

Note: Close all open applications prior to changing your screen resolution settings.

To change your screen resolution settings:
  1. Click anywhere on the Windows desktop with the right mouse button, and then click Properties.
  2. On the “Display Properties” box, click the Settings tab.
  3. In the “Desktop Area” box, click and drag the pointer to the extreme right to change the settings to 1024 X 768 pixels.
  4. Click Test. A Windows dialog box will display the message "The new mode will be tested. Your graphics adapter will be set to the new mode temporarily so that you can determine whether it works properly. Please press OK and then wait 5 seconds." Click OK to initiate the test bitmap.
  5. Once the test has completed a second dialog box will display the message "Did you see the test bitmap properly?" Click Yes to confirm the message.
  6. Click OK on the Display Properties box. A final dialog box may appear with the message "You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?" Click Yes to initiate the re-boot process.
Application viewer

The Viewfinder application viewer is a utility that extends the functional capability of your web browser so that you are able to use the enhanced reporting features within the application.

Check your Internet Explorer options to ensure that the browser settings are compatible with the Viewer.

Viewfinder incorporates a Dynamic HTML viewer with the following print options:
  • Active-X
  • Adobe Acrobat (for non Active-X installations)
Selecting an application viewer
  1. Click the arrow beside Administration on the main Viewfinder menu and click on the text Print Settings.
  2. Click on the radio button to the left of your required option.
  3. Click OK on the upper right menu bar to save your preference.
Checking your Internet browser properties

Once you have set your Viewfinder Application Viewer, you should ensure that Internet Explorer is also configured correctly.

To verify the browser settings:
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click on the Tools menu, and select Internet Options.
  2. Click on the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the "Microsoft VM" section. Ensure that "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled" is checked.
  3. Scroll down to the Security section. Ensure that "Use SSL 2.0" and "Use SSL 3.0" are checked.
  4. Click on the Security tab at the top of the window and click on the "Custom Level" button in the "Security level for this zone" section.
  5. Scroll down to the "Cookies" section. Under the subheading "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer", select Enable.
  6. Under the subheading "Allow per-session cookies", select Enable. Click OK.
  7. Click OK. Restart Internet Explorer, if prompted.
Updating your pop-up blocker settings
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click on the Tools menu, and select Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings.
  2. In the Address box, type www.rbcdexia-is.com
  3. Click Add. Click Close.
Updating your trusted sites
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click on the Tools menu, and select Internet Options
  2. Go to the Security tab, click on the green Trusted sites icon
  3. Click on the Sites button
  4. In the Address box, type https://www.rbcdexia-is.com
  5. Click Add. Click OK.
Enabling Active-X controls
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click on the Tools menu, and select Internet Options
  2. Go to the Security tab, click on the Custom level button
  3. Scroll down to the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section.
  4. Ensure that Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls is “enabled”.
  5. Click OK
Adding to your Favorites

To speed up your connection to the Viewfinder logon screen, add the page address to your Favorites Folder in Internet Explorer:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Favorites menu, click on Add to Favorites.
  3. If desired, enter a new description for the page in the "Name" box.
  4. Click OK to add.
  5. To connect to Viewfinder logon, click the Favorites button on the toolbar, and select the page from the list.
Ensure that all the appropriate DLLs are correctly registered
  1. Close all applications that are running.
  2. Open a DOS prompt window with Start > Run, and type CMD and press Enter
  3. Type the following list of commands, pressing Enter and clicking OK after each line
